Sending email broadcasts to registered mailing addresses is a common promotional practice by websites and an efficient method for communicating for a large group of users. Here are the
guidelines for a website aiming to allow users to subscribe to a mailing list:
- When users’ subscription is required a clear subscription mechanism should be in place (usually a small field for users to provide their email address is present on the website’s home page).
- Once users submit their email addresses, they should be redirected to a form where they can provide more details about their profile. At this stage, the users’ email would have already been captured and saved and users can now provide more information if they desire as this step should be an optional step.
- All emails sent to subscribers must have a clear way to allow users to unsubscribe from the mailing list.
- No emails should be sent to users who have unsubscribed their email address from the mailing list.
- Email broadcasts sent to users may include the user’s name and title to provide the user with a personalization feel.
