Website performance is a critical aspect of any online solution that developers should keep in mind during the actual development of the website. Any web page consists of a set of design and development components that come together and ultimately imply the overall load time and thus its performance.

For that purpose, following is the list of performance guidelines:
  • The overall size of the web pages should be within the accepted size to ensure an acceptable download time.
    This factor is to be considered more carefully for Lebanese audience taking into consideration the connectivity limitations in Lebanon. A typical web page should not exceed 300 Kb in total size so that it downloads in less than 10 seconds on a 256Kb connection.
  • The HTML markup size should be maintained.
  • The total number of CSS files should be kept to the minimum possible within a single page.
  • The total number of JavaScript files should be kept to the minimum possible within a single web page.
  • The total size of CSS files should be kept to the minimum possible within a web page.
  • The total size of JavaScript files should be kept to the minimum possible within a web page.
  • Images should be saved for web and optimized in terms of size so that each image does not take much time to load.
  • The overall number of images should be kept to the minimum possible within a web page.
  • The total number of requests on a page (CSS files, JS files, images etc.) should be kept to the minimum possible.
  • All website main pages should be tested for loading performance using appropriate load speed testing tools.
  • Overall website load testing should be done using specialized load testing tools to simulate the website performance under high load usage.
  • Websites with expected high traffic of users must be tested using stress tests tools.
