The registration of an “.lb” domain name must be done through the American University of Beirut (AUB) as it represents the Lebanese Domain Registry (LBDR).

The newly chosen domain name must be conforming to the present Standards and Guidelines. See section Domain Naming Convention.

The present procedure for registering a domain name in Lebanon can be summarized as follows:
  • Fax the required documents to AUB/LBDR.
  • AUB will deliver a temporary certificate that will allow Client to benefit from a 50% discount on the Category 35 registration fees with the Ministry of Economy and Trade, if such a trademark is required. Please note that according to LBDR “.gov.lb” registration requirements, the following exemption(s) may apply: “Generic full government entities or municipalities names such as beirut.gov.lb or general-security.gov.lb are exempted from the trademark requirement”, American University of Beirut. "GOV.LB New Domain Registration Guide". Web. 28 January 2011 http://www.aub.edu.lb/lbdr/Documents/guide-gov.lb.pdf.
  • If trademark is requested, an entity is expected to complete the Trademark Registration at the Ministry of Economy and Trade and fax to AUB/LBDR the front and back pages of The Lebanese Trademark Certificate (Internet class 35), for the specific domain name showing ownership. The trademark certificate should reflect the exact domain name in Latin characters and specify the Internet advertising class 35, i.e. for “XYZ.gov.lb” you should trademark "XYZ".
  • If all is in order, AUB will finalize the Registration.

For more information on registering a domain as an “.lb” domain refer to the following we address http://www.aub.edu.lb/lbdr/Documents/guide-gov.lb.pdf or contact the AUB/LBDR.
